Lloyd Motoren Werke G.m.b.H. was an automobile manufacturing company in Germany that was founded in 1908 and was closed in 1963. It was founded by Norddeutscher Lloyd which was a shipping company and it was headquartered in Bremen. Over the years, the company changed its name a lot of times but the vehicles were launched with ‘Lloyd’. The company was fully merged with Borgward in 1929 and this deal was also closed in 1950. After the company’s complete closing, its trading continued till 1989 – dealers used to sell replacement auto parts and also manufactured engines for boats and snowmobiles. The company merged with Hansa in 1914 and was named as Hansa-Lloyd Werke AG but due to financial instability, it changed a lot of badges and names. The light-weight cars were badged as ‘Hansa-Lloyd’ and commercial vehicles were badges as ‘Lloyd’. The company’s name changed to Lloyd Motoren Werke G.m.b.H. in 1950 when it mass produced light trucks and cars. 1950s was a good year for the company because after the war, Lloyd vehicles were considered inexpensive and comfortable.
