Before logos, the world would stamp their entities and commodities to show ownership. Labeling things have been ever since 3000 B.C. but this wasn’t enough for claiming. The world needed something solid to label their invention and then came the concept of logos. Greek philosopher Heraclitus used the term ‘logo’ for commodity knowledge and order.

Logos have played an important role of evolving societal perceptions and commercial identities. According to stats of 2023, 34% of the people opt for a product or service based on the company’s logo. The question that ticks people most is what did the first logo look like?

The Genesis of Logo

We have found answer to the question. As mentioned above, logos have been around the world for centuries but the first ever registered logo was seen in 1777. The world’s first logo was registered by Bass Brewery. This brewery was founded in 1777 by William Bass in England. It became the biggest beer-selling company in 1877. The company changed its logo 4 times in its 247 years of existence.

The fourth layer has grey color fill with black floral design. The fifth layer has a separating black border and the final layer is red and white with cylindrical design. This layer also has the name of the company in designed in black with all upper case letters. Below the triangle is again the name of the company in black, the first letter is capitalized and the rest are in small case. This word is underlined and has used a joined writing font type. Beside it is an unidentified set of letters which almost looks like a signature. All of the text is similar to Calibri Body Bold font type.

This is the latest Bass Brewery logo. The logo never ditched its traditional red triangle but the text inside of it is gone in this variant. Below the triangle is the name of the company designed in the same way but in red. This logo is considered a good example of minimalization.

Conclusion

The color selection of the logo represents strength, energy, and passion. Since the company has been around since more than 2 centuries, the passion must be high-sky.
