The Bakersfield Blaze, a minor league baseball team located in Bakersfield, California, had a presence in the California League at the Class A-Advanced level. They held their home games at Sam Lynn Ballpark, which was established in 1941. The stadium gained recognition for its unique features, including its orientation towards the setting sun and a relatively short center field fence measuring 354 feet (108 meters). Sam Lynn Ballpark had a seating capacity of 3,500 spectators. Towards the end of the 2008 season, there were speculations that the Blaze would relocate to the Carolina League for the upcoming season. However, in February 2009, Minor League Baseball president Pat O'Conner confirmed that the team would continue competing in the California League, putting the rumors to rest.
