About Baylor College of Medicine
Baylor College of Medicine is an independent and private health sciences center in Houston, Texas. It is known as the largest medical center in the world. The college has four main academic components: the National School of Tropical Medicine, the School of Health Professions, the Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences and the School of Medicine.
It was previously named as University of Dallas Medical Department. It was established in 1900 and its current President is Alicia D. Monroe. It has a total of 5486 faculty members and 1577 students. The college was formed by the efforts of a group of physicians in Dallas.
Meaning and History of Baylor College of Medicine Logo
Half members of the physicians opposed the idea of making a university but the decision was made for the establishment and the board of directors was set for the university which had 13 members including physicians and local citizens. Dr. Samuel H. Stout was made the chairman of the board and W. J. Moroney was made the secretary. Baylor College of Medicine changed its logo two times in the following years.

The university hired the first three physicians named as Lawrence Ashton, J. B. Titterington and Dr. Samuel E. Milliken. The school was opened for admission on 19th November, 1900 and enrolled 81 students in the same year. Dr. Albert Ferdinand A. B. was made the M.D. of the university. Baylor College of Medicine changed its logo in the following years.
1903
In this year, the logo has a vertical square with curved edges in black color. In it, there is a staff with two leaves on either sides and, a snake is wrapped around it; all of this is in white color. Outside around this square, there is some text beside the border ‘BAYLOR COLLEGE OF MEDICINE . SERVICE . EDUCATION . RESEARCH . ’. On its right, Baylor is written on top of College and below it, of is written. Below it, Medicine is written. These letters are capitalized and are black in color.
1995
In this year, the logo has a blue background and Baylor is written on top of College of and below it, Medicine is written in white color. The initials of these letters are capitalized and the rest of the letters are in small case.

Albert was also the co-founder of the university along with Samuel H. Stout and served as the first dean. He also established the chair of Diseases of Children and then became a professor. Albert was praised because he opened a clinic associated with Baylor hospital which was for free. The institute’s name was changed in 1903.
