About Beyond Meat Company
Beyond Meat is a Los Angeles-based producer of plant-based meat substitutes founded in 2009 by Ethan Brown. The company’s initial products were launched to the United States market in 2012 and have since been available worldwide through their 119000 retail outlets as well foodservice providers like restaurants, chains & hotels which account for over 80% of restaurant sales annually.
In 2009, Ethan Brown founded the company with a mission to combat climate change. He contacted two University of Missouri professors who had been developing their meatless protein for years – Fu-hung Hsieh and Harold Huff. When licensing this technology in 2012 from them, Beyond Meat launched its first product called “Chicken Free Strips”. It expanded nationally after 2013 when they developed plant-based beef crumbles too!
Manufacturing
In 2020, Beyond Meat opened its second production facility in Columbia Missouri which resulted in a three-fold increase of the company’s manufacturing space. The new location allows them to produce more than double what was produced at their previous plant and have enough room for growth into other markets like Australia where they’re looking forward!
The Beyond Meat facility in Enschede, Netherlands is one of two facilities located within Europe. The co-manufacturing plant was established by Dutch company Zandbergen to service their distribution network throughout the continent from Africa all over Asia but also parts between Russia and Turkey as well!
In China, Beyond Meat operates an owned manufacturing plant in Jiaxing. Its first “end-to-end” outside the United States began full production of its animal protein alternative and was officially opened by Jack Ma himself last year in 2021.
