ESPNews is an American multinational digital cable and satellite television network that’s owned by ESPN Inc. A joint venture between Disney Media Networks (which owns 80%) and Hearst Communications. It broadcasts sporting events from around the world with its style of commentary, which can be described as informative yet entertaining at times too!

Purpose

The main purpose of ESPNews is to provide up-to-the-minute sports news and information to its viewers. In addition to broadcasting live sporting events, the network also airs studio shows such as Sports Center, Baseball Tonight, NFL Live, College Game Day etc.

ESPNews broadcasts from its studios at 180 Huntington Avenue (near Fenway Park) in Boston; it shares those facilities with New England Sports Network (NESN). It also operates offices in Los Angeles (CA), Buffalo (NY), Toronto (ON), London (UK) as well as on Merritt Island, Florida near Cape Canaveral where its studios overlook the launch pad of the Kennedy Space Center.

ESPNews expanded to a 24-hour schedule on September 22, 2006 – which is often cited as when the network “officially launched” – however, ESPNews had been broadcasting exclusive content for several hours a day since its launch in 1996.
