About Google Duo
Google Duo, developed by Google, was a proprietary voice over IP (VoIP) and videotelephony service that has since been discontinued. It was available for use on Android, iOS, and web browsers. With Google Duo, users could engage in high-definition one-to-one and group audio and video calls with other Duo users.
To ensure secure communication, Google Duo implemented end-to-end encryption as a default feature. Users had the option to use Duo with either a phone number or a Google account, allowing them to call individuals from their contact list.
The announcement of Google Duo was made at Google’s developer conference on May 18, 2016, followed by a global rollout that commenced on August 16, 2016. However, in 2022, Google announced its intention to integrate the service into Google Meet, leading to the eventual discontinuation of Google Duo by the end of that year.
