About Google Hangouts
Google Hangouts, initially integrated within Google+ before becoming a standalone service in 2013, was a cross-platform instant messaging platform developed by Google. Over time, Google incorporated features from Google+ Messenger and Google Talk into Hangouts. Furthermore, Google started integrating elements of Google Voice, their internet telephony product, into Hangouts, with the goal of making Hangouts the future of Voice.
In 2017, Google initiated the development of two separate enterprise communication tools: Google Meet and Google Chat, as part of the Google Workspace suite. Starting from June 2020, Google began migrating Workspace users from Hangouts to Meet and Chat. This transition was followed by Gmail users shifting from Hangouts to Meet and Chat throughout 2021. Ultimately, on November 1, 2022, the Hangouts service was discontinued.
