Harley Davidson is also called Harley and H-D. It is an American motorcycle manufacturer. It was founded in 1903 and it was founded by William A. Davidson, Walter Davidson, Arthur Davidson, and William S. Harley. Its headquarters is in Wisconsin, United States. Its current CEO is Jochen Zeitz.

As of 2021, the company manufactured almost 200,000 units, gained a profit of 4.5 billion dollars and the company employs almost 6000 employees. Harley Davidson and Indiana Motorcycles are the only one that survived the Great Depression.

Harley was 20 years old only when he drew up a design for a small engine. The company changed its logo in the following years.

1903

            This year, the logo has a shield and a bar. The bar is in front of the shield. The shield has a black inline and the shield is in dark grey color. The inside of the inline has MOTOR written in it. The bottom of the shield has CYCLES written in it. The bar has a white inline and inside it, HARLEY – DAVIDSON written in it. Below the O of Davidson, outside of the white inline ‘MARK’ is written.

1950

            This year, the logo has a circle and there is a V in it. The edges of the V are outside of the circle and the bottom tip of the V is in the circle. There is a bar overlapping the V and Harley Davidson is written on it. Below the bar, American is written on top of Made and the letters are capitalized. Above the bar, 50 YEARS is written.

1953

            This year, the logo was almost as same as the first one but now there are colors in it. The shield is now black, fancier and it has a dark dull orange inline with MOTOR written. At the bottom of the shield, COMPANY is written. There is a bar overlapping the shield with a dark dull orange inline and HARLEY-DAVIDSON in white.

1980

            This year, the logo was the same but the colors were slightly bright.

You Should Also Know: The company introduced a logo when they completed their 100 years in 2003. In this logo, the bar and shield remained the same but are in grey and black color. On the left and right side of the bar, there are two bars in grey color. On the left bar, 1903 is written in black, and on the right bar, 2003 is written in black. There are grey wings below the shield and 100 written in it in grey color with black outline. All of this in a black background with grey inline and black outline.

Arthur joined his childhood friend Harley and worked on a motor bicycle and it was finished in 1903. The bike was finished with the assistance of Arthur’s brother Walter Davidson. The trio found out that the motor-bicycle could not go up the hills and the three began working on a new project. The Harley Davidson logo is made up of the following things.

            In the first and second years, the font was completely customized. The words MOTOR and CYCLES are also customized. The words HARLEY and DAVIDSON are written in Compacta font.

Color

            In the first year, dark grey, white and black color is used. In the second year, the logo is in silver color.  Last two years, rust dull dark orange, black and white colors are used.
