About Office Depot Company
ODP Company, also known as Office Depot, is an American office supply retailer headquartered in Boca Raton, Florida. With combined annual sales of over $11 billion, the company is the third-largest employer in the United States. There are about 38,000 employees in the United States. Its stores include home and business furnishings, office equipment, and computer technology. The ODP Corporation was founded in 1945 and was originally known as The Office Depot, Inc.
In 2008, the Office Depot Company merged with Staples. The merger created a larger, stronger, and more efficient office supply company. The two companies have a history of partnership and have worked together in the past. During the merger, the two companies shifted their focus from distributing office supplies to promoting a more efficient business. The combination of the two companies allowed Office Depot to expand its international operations and reach a larger audience.
The Company has continued to grow over the years. In 1990, it expanded to the Midwest, and in 1991, it had 122 locations in 19 states and sales of $625 million. The expansion was partially financed through the sale of 3.6 million shares to French chain store concern Carrefour. By the time of this writing, the company had grown to 230 stores. The Company has since sold off a significant part of its stock to help finance the growth of the business.
Currently, Office Depot is the largest contract stationer in Western Australia. Its business services division has been expanding globally since 2001. In 2003, the company expanded to Ireland, the Netherlands, and France. In 2004, Nelson became chairman of the company. In 2008, the Viking direct-mail business was expanded into Germany and Switzerland. In 2011, the office supplies and services division expanded into Costa Rica and Guatemala. During this period, the Company has continued to grow and make investments.
