About Puebla Pericos

In the early 1920s, upon their return from military service, Poblanos (residents of Puebla) who had been stationed in the northern regions of Mexico introduced the sport of baseball to the state. They shared this new sport with the locals, who began practicing it in their free time, resulting in the formation of numerous amateur baseball teams throughout the state. In 1922, General Andrés Zarzosa Verástegui established an amateur baseball club called Almazán de Puebla. This club, along with other former Puebla baseball clubs, traveled to Mexico City to engage in exhibition games against amateur clubs from the state. In 1924, General Juan Andrew Almazán, who had become the owner of the club, relocated it to Mexico City. With no one assuming responsibility for the club, it eventually faded into obscurity. Notable players from that initial club included Ramón Artola, Jacinto Jaquinet, Ramón Montes de Oca, Felipe Cázares, and others.
