About Richmond Flying Squirrels

Situated in Richmond, Virginia, the Richmond Flying Squirrels are a Minor League Baseball team that competes in the Eastern League. They proudly serve as the Double-A affiliate of the San Francisco Giants major league club and call The Diamond their home stadium.

Since 2010, the Flying Squirrels have maintained their affiliation with the Giants, making it the longest-running active partnership within the Giants organization for teams not owned by the Giants. Previously known as the Connecticut Defenders, the team underwent a name change.

The arrival of the Flying Squirrels marked the return of affiliated baseball to Richmond after a one-year hiatus. This absence was a result of the relocation of the former Triple-A International League's Richmond Braves to Lawrenceville, Georgia in 2009, where they now operate under the name Gwinnett Stripers.
