About Salem Red Sox

The Salem Red Sox, affiliated with the Boston Red Sox of Major League Baseball (MLB), are a Minor League Baseball team based in Salem, Virginia. Salem is an independent city located adjacent to Roanoke. The team competes in the Carolina League at the Single-A level. Their home games take place at Haley Toyota Field at Salem Memorial Ballpark, a facility with a seating capacity of 6,300 that was opened in 1995. The team's history dates back to 1955, with a brief hiatus before returning from 1957 to 1967, when they participated in the Appalachian League. Initially, they competed at the Class D level, and later transitioned to the Rookie level starting in 1963. From 1968 until 2020, the team was a part of the Carolina League, where they competed at the Class A level initially, and then moved up to the Class A-Advanced level in 1990.
