Target is also known as Target Corporation. It is an American big box departmental store chain. It was founded in 1902 by George Dayton and Douglas Dayton and John Geisse. It was formerly named as Goodfellow Dry Goods in 1902, it was renamed to Dayton’s Dry Goods Company in 1903, it was again renamed to Dayton Company in 1910. The company was again renamed to Dayton Corporation in 1962 and it was again renamed to Dayton Hudson Corporation in 1969 and it became target in 2000.

            This year, the logo has a target having three layers of red circles and three layers of white circles. Target is written on the circle in black. The letter is T is capitalized and the rest of the letters are in small case. The red and white colors are dull and seem blurry.

            This year, the target has now two layers of red circle and one white circle only. Target is now written in white color with black outline and is written on right side of the circle. All the letters are capitalized.

            This year, the letters are gone and now target icon is now big in size having two layers of red circle and one circle.

1974

            This year, the target icon is again small in size and Target is written on its right in black with all capitalized letters. The word target is bigger than the icon.

2004

            This year, the target icon is on top of the word target which is now written in red color. Now the icon is bigger than the word. The letters are still capitalized.

            In this year, the logo was the same but the letters are now in small case – the red color seems brighter and darker.

Douglas Dayton became the first President of Target and the first store made a profit of 39 million dollars after one year of launching. After this, 5 more stores were opened in Minnesota and Dayton became the second-largest independent department store in the United States. The logo of Target consists of the following two things.

Font

            In the first year, the text was written in customized bold Times New Roman font. In the second year, the text was written in Ardela Edge XO1 Black Out font. And in the third year, there was no text. In the fourth and fifth year, the text was written in Waldner font. In the last year, the text was written in Sequel Sans Semi Bold Display font.

Color

In the first, second and fourth year, red, white and black colors were used. In the third, fifth and sixth year, only red and white colors used in target’s logo.
