The Tri-City ValleyCats, often known as the 'Cats, are a professional independent baseball team situated in Troy, New York. The name "Tri-City" represents the three neighboring cities of Albany, Schenectady, and Troy that form the Capital District of New York State. For nearly two decades, from 2002 to 2020, they were active members of Minor League Baseball's New York-Penn League (NYPL), serving as the Class A Short Season affiliate of the Houston Astros. However, following Major League Baseball's reorganization of the minor leagues after the 2020 season, the ValleyCats were not chosen to continue their involvement in affiliated baseball.
