UITM is the abbreviation of Universiti Teknologi MARA. It is also known as The MARA University of Technology and it is a public university located in Shah Alam, Selangor. It was established in November 1956. The institute changed its name three times; Rida Training Center in 1956, MARA College in 1965 and MARA Institute of Technology in 1999.
Its motto is Usaha, Taqwa and Mulia in Malay and in English it means Endeavour, Religious and Dignified. When the university opened its gates for the first time, it has 50 students enrolled and now it is known as the largest university in Malaysia. The UITM logo typically features a combination of visual elements that symbolize the institution’s character and purpose. As a public university with a technical emphasis, the logo may incorporate elements related to education, technology, and Malaysian culture.
The university has 35 campuses along with one main campus and it teaches 500 different courses in English from postgraduate to undergraduate level. The university was founded by Onn Jaafar who was also the former president of the United Malays National Organization. He got the idea of making a university when he visited Sri Lanka on a small rural development program. UITM logo changed 4 times in the following years.
The purpose of the university was to make developments in the rural parts of Malaysia and raise the economy for Malays. The university opened in Petaling Jaya and the first principal was Syed Alwi Syed Sheikh Alhadi. The inauguration was done by Ismail Abdul Rahman, the Minister of Trade and Industry. UITM logo changed in the following ways.
In this year, the university was called Rida Training Center and in Malay it was called Dewan Latehan. The logo had a green circle and in it, there was another circle that looks like a chainring of a cycle. The chainring’s top has text in white color ‘DEWAN LATEHAN’ and on its bottom, ‘RIDA’ is written in white color. In its center, there is a white space and there are 11 green symbols that seem like swords in its center, there is another green circle and it has a yellow drawing of a lighted lamp.

In this year, the university was called Maktab MARA and the logo changed as well. Now the logo has a badge with a black outline and red and black inlines. The badge is divided into two parts. The first part is green and it has a white-colored open book. The second part is yellow and there is a black chainring and in its center, there is a symbol of justice in black. Outside below the badge, there is what seems like a stand-in black color and it has three parts and each one has a word; Usaha, Taqwa and Mulia in white color.

In this year, everything remained the same only the red color was replaced with the white color.
1966 Logo
This year, the logo was completely changed. Now there is a customized symbol which is square from the top and oval from the bottom. This shape has a blue color on the top and purple color in the bottom. There are 7 yellow lines in different densities and below it, there are what look like white swords criss-crossing each other. Outside on the right side of this shape, there is some Arabic writing in purple color and below it, UNIVERSITI is written on top of TEKNOLOGI and below it, MARA is written in black color.
1999 Logo
In the beginning, the training center offered different courses that included pre-university courses, business training skills, and many other courses introduced by international universities like The British Institute of Management, The Australian Society of Accountants, The Australian Chartered Secretaryship and The London Chamber of Commerce. UITM logo is based on the following two things.
In the first three years, simple Calibri Body font was used. In the last year, a customized Times New Roman font was used in the logo.
In the first year, green, yellow, and white colors were used. In the second year, black, red, white, yellow, and green colors were used. Third year, black, white, yellow and green colors were used and in the last year, blue, purple, yellow, and black colors were used.

The first logo was very boring and it is fine because there was very little competition of logo designing in that era. The next two UITM logos were very common and were just like any other institute logo. The last logo is catchy and the Arabic writing adds two points to the logo.
