El Águila de Veracruz, known as Veracruz Eagles in English, is a professional baseball team competing in the Mexican League. They are located in Veracruz, Mexico, and their home games take place at Estadio Universitario Beto Ávila. The introduction of baseball to Veracruz traces back to the early 20th century when employees of American and British oil companies brought the sport to the region. Native workers became interested in the games played by these company managers, who eventually purchased uniforms for the newfound players. These uniforms happened to be red, which had a lasting influence on future baseball teams in Veracruz. The first baseball club established in Veracruz was named Rojos del Águila ("Reds of the Eagle") and was founded on September 16, 1903, drawing inspiration from the Mexican Eagle Petroleum Co., now known as Pemex, a Mexican oil company.
