About West Virginia Black Bears
The West Virginia Black Bears, previously a Minor League Baseball team, now serve as a collegiate summer baseball team in the MLB Draft League. Situated in Granville, West Virginia, they call Monongalia County Ballpark their home, conveniently located across the Monongahela River from Morgantown and West Virginia University.
From 2015 to 2020, they operated as a member of the New York-Penn League, serving as the Class A Short Season affiliate of the Pittsburgh Pirates. However, the reorganization of the minor leagues after the 2020 season led to a change in their affiliation.
In August 2014, an announcement was made stating that the Jamestown Jammers would cease operations and relocate to Morgantown. Shortly after, on October 22, the team revealed that they would be named the “Black Bears” based on a fan vote, highlighting the significance of the American black bear as West Virginia’s state animal.
