About Google Wallet
Google Wallet, also known as Wallet, is a digital wallet platform developed by Google. It is compatible with the Android, Wear OS, and Fitbit OS operating systems and was unveiled at the 2022 Google I/O keynote on May 11, 2022. The rollout of the platform began on July 18 for Android smartphones, coexisting with the 2020 Google Pay app.
The brand name “Google Wallet” was initially used for the company’s mobile payment system introduced in 2011. Later, it merged with Android Pay to form a new application called Google Pay in 2018. The previous Wallet app, which was transformed into a peer-to-peer payments service, was renamed Google Pay Send and eventually discontinued in 2020.
