About Lakewood BlueClaws
The Minor League Baseball team known as the Jersey Shore BlueClaws, previously known as the Lakewood BlueClaws, competes in the South Atlantic League and serves as the High-A affiliate of the Philadelphia Phillies. They are located in Lakewood, New Jersey, and their name reflects their position along the Jersey Shore and the presence of blue crabs indigenous to the region. The BlueClaws host their home games at ShoreTown Ballpark.
In the aftermath of the 2000 season, the Cape Fear Crocs, a team in the Class A South Atlantic League, relocated to Lakewood, New Jersey, and underwent a name change to become the Lakewood BlueClaws.
With the arrival of the 2001 season, the BlueClaws became affiliated with the Philadelphia Phillies, who shifted their Class A affiliation from the Piedmont Boll Weevils in Kannapolis, North Carolina, to Lakewood. The team was owned by Joe Plumeri and Joe Finley, both hailing from New Jersey and also serving as owners of the Trenton Thunder.
