About Lakers
The Lakers are known as The Los Angeles Lakers. It is an American pro basketball team and they compete in National Basketball Association (NBA). Lakers play home games at Crypto.com Arena, Los Angeles Clippers, Los Angeles Sparks, Los Angeles Kings. The Lakers have won 17 championships.
The Lakers began in 1947 and it was named National Basketball League (NBL). NBL played in Minnesota and called themselves Minneapolis Lakers. NBL won the 1948 championship. The origins of the Lakers franchise started when Morris Chalfen and Ben Berger purchased a disbanded Detroit Gems of NBL.
Meaning and History of Lakers Logo
The Detroit Gems were purchased in $15,000 from the owner Maury Winston. The team was put together and dealt by Sid Hartman who was a sports writer in Minneapolis. The team’s name, Lakers were inspired by nickname of Minneapolis; Land of 10,000 Lakes. The team’s first coaches were John Kundla from College of St. Thomas. The Lakers logo changed 5 times in the following years.

The Lakers team had George Mikan playing at center, Herm Schaefer the playmaker and Jim Pollard playing forward. Mikan became one of the most known players of the Lakers. This year, the logo has two stars in yellow color with blue outline and in the center of these two stars, MPLS. is written in yellow color with blue outline. Below it, there is a basketball in yellow color with blue outline and below it, Lakers is written in yellow with blue outline. The center of the basketball has the map of Minneapolis and Minneapolis is written on the map and has a star.

This year, the logo completely changed. Los is written in ascending direction and Angeles is written in descending direction. Both the letters are light blue in color with a thin dark blue outline. Below it, Lakers is written in regular blue color.

This year, there was again a big change in the logo. There is a dark green basketball and Lakers is overlapped on it in purple color. The letters are italicized representing speed as there are lines in the letters. Los Angeles is written on top of Lakers but is small in size.

1976
This year, the logo is the same but the colors are changed. The basketball is now in light orange color and the text ‘Los Angeles’ and ‘Lakers’ is written in light purple color.

In the year 1951 and 1952, Lakers won 40 games. They even won 7 games in the NBA Finals. Even after the retirement of Mikan, the Lakers still managed to win another 40 games in 1954. Lakers became a national headline when their plane crashed during landing due to snow storm but no one was hurt. The Lakers logo consists of the following two parts.

In the first two years, the text was written in Winner Compressed Medium font. In the last three years, the text was written in Multipurpose Condensed Uppercase Clean Sans Serif Typeface logo.

First year, yellow, white and light color was used. In the second year, light blue and regular blue colors were used and in the third year, green and purple colors were used. In the last two years, light orange and purple color was used in Lakers logo.
