About Mobile BayBears

The Mobile BayBears, formerly a Minor League Baseball team based in Mobile, Alabama, operated within the Southern League. Serving as the Double-A affiliate for various Major League Baseball teams, they were affiliated with the San Diego Padres from 1997 to 2006, the Arizona Diamondbacks from 2007 to 2016, and the Los Angeles Angels from 2017 to 2019. Their home games took place at Hank Aaron Stadium, named in honor of Mobile native and baseball legend Hank Aaron, which opened its doors in 1997. However, in 2020, the BayBears relocated to Madison, Alabama, and rebranded as the Rocket City Trash Pandas.

The BayBears franchise originated back in 1976 in Charlotte, North Carolina, initially known as the Charlotte Orioles. It later transformed into the first iteration of the Charlotte Knights. When Charlotte advanced to become a Triple-A franchise in 1993, the team temporarily settled in Nashville, Tennessee, as the Nashville Xpress from 1993 to 1994. It then operated as the Port City Roosters in Wilmington, North Carolina, from 1995 to 1996. Finally, the franchise found its long-term home in Mobile in 1997.
