It was founded by Thomas George John and was headquartered in Coventry. Other than manufacturing automobiles, the company also produced aircraft engines, racing cars, armored fighting vehicles, and military vehicles. In 1965, Alvis became a part of Rover and it also became a part of British Leyland in 1982. The successor of the company started manufacturing Alvis’ classic brand in 2023. The company was previously called T.G John and Company LTD and it manufactured motorscooters, carburetors, and stationary engines. A complaint was made from the Avro Aircraft Company that T.G John and Company LTD had almost the same logo as theirs. This led Thomas to change the name of the company and the logo in 1921.
