Donkervoort Automobielen BV is a sports car manufacturing company in Netherlands which was founded in 1978 by Joop Donkervoort and is currently headquartered in Lelystad. The company is now operated by his son Denis after the founder decided to retire. Donkervoort’s wife and daughters play a significant role in company’s operations as well. The model Donkervoort S8A was named after the founder’s wife, Amber and the model Donkervoort D8 was named after his son, Denis. Joop first started with importing kit car in 1978 and made some modifications in those vehicles allowing him to come up with the company’s first model S7. This model was based on Lotus Seven and was manufactured in a shed in Tienhoven. The company then moved to a bigger production factory in 1983 and finally moved to its current headquarters in 2000. Donkervoort cars are also available in different parts of the world like United Arabic Emirates, Israel, North America, and Europe.
