1908

This is the first logo of General Motors. It is a kind of a license and it was seen on their office. The logo also looks like a certificate with says “General Motors Company.”, this text is in black color with all capitalized letters and is designed using a customized Times New Roman font. Below it, are 2 black horizontal lines with 3 dotted designs in the center. Below it is text “Certificate of Incorporation.”, this text is designed in the same way; the only difference is that each first letter of the word is capitalized and rest are in small case. Below it is another line of text that says “Filed in Office of Secretary of State”, all of these words are capitalized, the first letters of each word are slightly larger in size. Below it is the company’s launch date “September 16, 1908”, it is designed in the same way. Below it are 2 horizontal lines, the first one is thinner compared to the second and below these lines is the address of the company which is not very visible.
1938

This is the second logo of General Motors which was designed by Harley Earl. The logo is a vertical square in black color with pointy edges. The inside of the shape is divided into 2 parts; black and white. The white part also becomes the external border line of the black part. The black part has the company name’s initial letters “GM”, both capitalized and in white. These letters are designed in customized Times New Roman font. The white part has the full name of the company General designed in black color on top of Motors also in black color. Both words have capitalized letters and are designed in Calibri Body Bold font type.
1964

The third logo of General Motors was designed by GM’s in-house design team. The logo is a 3 nested square. The first layer is a thick blue border, followed by a second white layer, and the third layer has a blue color fill. The last layer has the 2 letters “GM” designed in white color and are capitalized. These letters are designed using a Vrinda Bold font type.
1967

This logo is near to minimalization. The logo is a blue color filled square and it in its center are 2 letters “GM” designed in white color with all capitalized letters using Vrinda Bold font style. These 2 letters are unlined by a thick blue horizontal line.
2001

The logo is the same like the 1967 General Motors logo. The only difference is that it is given a 2D look. The letters and the underline beneath the letters are not completely white, it has gradient of blue color. The first upper part of the square has 2 shades of blue and the second bottom part of the square has a matte dark blue color.
2010

The 2D look from the logo has disappeared. The logo is back to being simple. The logo is now a bigger square with a thin dark blue border and an almost invisible white inline. The letters “GM” are designed using the same details but it has a blue shadowed border. There is white gradient in the center of the square.
2016

This logo of General Motors is the best example of minimalization. The logo is the name of the company designed in black color on a transparent background. All the letters are capitalized and the name of the company is designed using Aroma No. 2 Pro Bold font type.

This is the current logo of General Motors. It was designed by the GM’s in-house design team. The logo has a slight 2D look and it has a light blue square with curved/soft edges. The square has a white color fill and has 2 letters “GM” but this time the letters are in small case and only the letter M is underlined with a blue horizontal line. General Motors Company is a multinational automotive manufacturing company based in America. The company was founded in 1908 by William C. Durant. The company’s headquarters is in Detroit, Michigan, USA. The company excels at manufacturing automobiles, its parts, military vehicles, commercial vehicles, luxury vehicles, and performance vehicles. William C. Durant was the owner of Durant-Dort Carriage and it was the largest horse-drawn vehicle manufacturer in 1900. William founded the General Motors Company in 1908 and launched it as a holding company. After the launch, he acquired Buick Motor Company which was already sold to him in 1904 by James H. Whiting. In 1908, the founder acquired Olds Motor Works.
