Hummer: Company Overview

Hummer is a brand of SUVs and pickup trucks and it was first marketed by AM General in 1992 and was headquartered in Michigan, USA. The company began selling its first vehicle named as Humvee M998. The company was defunct in 2010 but was revived by GMC in 2020. General Motors acquired the brand name from AM General in 1998 and launched three vehicle models H1, H2, and H3. AM General wanted to sell a public-friendly version of Humvee in the late 1980s. This was done by mirroring the same structures of civilian Hummers featuring wood trim, convenience packages, stereo systems, upgraded upholstery, sound insulation, air conditioning, and automotive gloss paint. The first models of Hummers were bought by Arnold Schwarzenegger. General Motors acquisition included only distribution and marketing of the Hummers while the manufacturing was done by AM General. The H1 model was discontinued in 2006 and the rest of the models were then manufactured by GM.

FACT

The Hummer H1 was inspired by Humvee (High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicle). It was made for public’s availability in 1992.
